Trading Really Fast and Other Accidents

Associate Professor Tim Gebbie will present the Department of Statistical Science seminar, with a talk entitled, "Trading Really Fast and Other Accidents".

The discussion hopes to give a high-level view of some interesting historical events in the rush towards automated trading and  A glimpse of the relationship between regulations, innovation and technology from the perspective of the science of finance and the  study of financial markets as an ecosystem. The talk may be of interest to those interested in the statistical sciences and the application thereof to financial markets. The talk aims to high-light the view the Financial Market Ecosystem can be viewed as a big social science  experiment where Profit-Seekers spend large quantities of their own money to generate enormous amounts of data for the enjoyment of  Scientist. The talk will probably not be of interest to those interested in this or that profit seeking algorithm or “how to beat the market”.
